News broke Wednesday morning confirming what NBC Sports Washington’s Julie Donaldson tweeted a couple of days ago, that the Redskins were expected to exercise Adrian Peterson’s 2020 club option.
Donaldson joined Wednesday’s Doc and Galdi Show on the Team 980/95.9 FM to reveal the truth about her telling tweets surrounding the team and to shed light on the Redskins picking up Adrian Peterson’s option, considering the move as “the wise thing to do.”
“He was their captain. He’s a leader. He’s a solid voice in that locker room,” Donaldson declared. “Ron Rivera wants to bring in a lot of youth, but Adrian Peterson is someone who kind of holds them all together. He leads by example and he is available! Even at the end of the season, he was playing banged up, and was still out there producing.”
Julie also tells us what the rest of the Redskins running back room consists of.
“You have Derrius Guice. There’s still a lot of hope for him, but he’s got to be healthy and he, as he goes forward, is going to have to be able to listen to his body, to know when he can and can’t be out there. And anything Bryce Love gives you is just going to be a bonus.”
Speculation surrounding the Redskins’ offensive line was also mentioned by Donaldson via twitter.
Rick ‘Doc’ Walker asks Donaldson about where the team is in negotiations with Trent Williams.
“I think things with Trent Williams are going a little bit slower probably than people want,” Donaldson disclosed. “It would be all speculation to say ‘Why?’. We know Trent wants money and we know that Trent will come back for the right price. Are the Redskins willing to pay that? I think there’s kind of just a big question mark at left tackle.”
And what about ‘Big Nasty’, Brandon Scherff?
“It is my understanding that you can expect them to keep Brandon Scherff, either a franchise tag or sign him to something and get some deal done.”
The healthy of Jordan Reed has also been a huge topic of discussion, as he has been in concussion protocol for about six months.
“I do not anticipate him back,” Donaldson expressed to Doc and Galdi.
Wednesday afternoon, Ben Standig broke the news that Reed cleared the league’s concussion protocol program. Standig, too, suspects that the team is expected to move on from the seven year veteran.
