Maryland Head Basketball Coach Mark Turgeon joined The Kevin Sheehan Show to discuss how he and his No. 15 ranked Terps squad is doing so far this season.
Coach Turgeon was very candid when asked how he’s been doing these last couple of weeks winning three in a row and six of their last eight games, “social networking whatever, it’s ‘Crazyville’,” Turgeon told Sheehan. “I don’t pay attention. I know when I’m out in public 98% of the people appreciate what I’m doing, they don’t get on and read all of the negative stuff and they just see the positive of 16-4, and ranked and all that kind of stuff.”
When it comes to some of the harsh criticism of his players on social media Coach didn’t hold back, “It’s unfair, I don’t like it, I don’t like when people get on and talk about my players. I don’t read it about myself, but it’s ‘BS’, and it puts too much pressure on our guys.”
Though Turgeon doesn’t read the negative social media criticism on himself, he’s still aware of it, “I don’t like people talking about me in a certain way, I don’t read it, but I hear about it,” Coach says. “I think I’m an excellent coach, I think I do a good job. I think I’m a good person, I think I’m a really good coach for young people today, I think I’ve adapted with the times and that’s what’s important.”
The Terps have won their last three games, all in the Big Ten, and they’ll look to continue their winning ways when No. 18 Iowa visits on Thursday night. You can listen live right here at 8:30p ET on The Team 980 & 95.9 FM.
