Stephen Strasburg is returning to D.C. Just over a month after winning the World Series, the Nationals got another victory Monday in re-signing the World Series MVP, Stephen Strasburg, to a record-setting 7-Year, $245 Million deal, Jon Heyman of the MLB Network tweeted .

This deal comes after Strasburg opted out of the 4-year, $100 million he had left on his contract. In choosing to do so, Stras will make an additional $145 million, which makes his earnings the richest pitching contract ever when it comes the total overall money as well as AAV (average annual value). USA Today’s Bob Nightengale added, via twitter, that more than $80 Million of the deal will be deferred, as the Nationals typically do.
