Big Baller Brand is in complete disarray at the moment with the homegrown shoe and apparel company losing its signature athlete. Despite that, LaVar Ball is still on a mission to get all of his kids in the NBA and revealed LaMelo’s plan to get there.
LaVar Ball has been shockingly quiet for the most part but finally, a microphone found its way to the head of the Ball family, and he did not hesitate to speak on the status of five-star recruit son LaMelo Ball. With his college eligibility shot and no big name schools even looking at him despite a claim from LaMelo that Kansas was interested (they said they were not), Ball says his son will take his talents to either Australia or China instead of going to the G League route.
He made the stunning announcement during halftime of the Big Baller Brand All-American Game. Ball decided to speak up so he can put the conversation to bed, stating:
“I’m going to let you know the plan now, so everyone can just stop. In college, I already knew what they were about to do. ‘We’re going to investigate, we’re not going to let him play until we let him play, LaVar. We’re not going to let you do all that big-mouth talking and then we’re going to hold him back and a whole year go by.’ The G League: I’m not going to let no 28, 29-year-old dudes tee off on him. And try to make a name for himself, so he’s definitely going overseas … Either Australia or China. One of the two.”
According to For The Win if LaMelo decides to go to Australia to play professionally, he could get $100,000 and be given a car, apartment and have his travel covered if he receives the “Next Star” treatment. The 17-year-old basketball phenom could benefit the most if he goes to China possibly signing a contract that could exceed $1 million. The drawback to both decisions is that not a lot of eyes in the US will be on LaMelo due to the time differences.
Its no secret a lot of sports experts feel Ball mishandled his son’s career with the very questionable decision to play in Lithuania. Some even say that LaMelo could have received the same hype as Zion Williamson going into college but now its just a case of could’ve, would’ve, should’ve. We will see how LaVar’s latest plan will work out for his son, and we hope he does achieve his hoop dreams of playing in the NBA.
