“If you don’t like it, you can hike. Facts!” was part of the response from the Wizard’s starting point guard and leader, John Wall. As you know by now, Wall was accused of having more loyalty to the club than to his job. Thursday afternoon he decided to respond via Instagram Live, “[they] talkin’ about, win some damn games! Man, it’s a long season, man. Everybody [doesn’t] start off great” so Friday night was another chance for the Wiz Kids to turn things around.
Even though Friday was a special night for the city, it wasn’t due to the Wizards. The Capital City Go-Go earned their very first win in franchise history after starting the season 0-2.
Devin Robinson and Jordan McRae, who scored 41 points, showed their leadership skills by taking over the game when they were down. In the third quarter, things really started to heat up. It seemed like every other minute Robinson was slamming the ball through the hoop. I asked Coach Christian if he was keeping count of his dunks, “I did not (laughs) but I feel like it was some SportsCenter-like highlights there”
With everything that happened on Thursday and the Wizards losing Friday night’s game while The Go-Go celebrated their first win, I had to ask Jordan McRae where Wall’s mind was before the game earlier that night in Orlando.
And that’s the mindset the Wizards had going into Saturday nights game to bring home a third win for this season! “Probably one of our best games” Coach Brooks expressed reflecting on this win. “We needed this one,” says Jeff Green (Forward), “When you play well together and you do it together, it feels good.”
When you’ve been criticized for many years, there’s nothing else you can do but look at the positives and not listen to ‘they’. Especially when you know you are better than what ‘they’ are saying you are.
Wizard fans are excited to celebrate this but everyone’s still waiting to see what will happen for Monday night’s rematch against the Orlando Magic. Dwight Howard says he can do better than his Saturday performance against Miami with 16 rebounds. This was the first game the Wizards outrebounded the opposing team. But hey, if he wants to increase that number, no one is stopping him!
The Wizards have 5 winnable home games coming up and they are expected to win them because there’s no room for losses right now. Fans will be in the stands just like they were for the Redskins this Sunday in Tampa Bay. According to Josh Norman, True Fans show up on the road. Those fans played a role in the Redskins 16-3 win over the Buccaneers. This was also an expected win for the Burgundy and Gold so thankfully they pulled it through.
Sports come with wins and losses, not an amusement park but we’re definitely on a Rollercoaster. All you have to do is hold on for the ride. I have a feeling this season, with all of our DC teams, will not disappoint.
