Caps forward Tom Wilson has been suspended 20 games by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

The Department’s explanation is in this link: Wilson Suspended 20 Games

Wilson has a history with the Department of Player Safety, and as a repeat offender is subject to longer suspensions, his history is as follows:

-In Preseason last year against the St. Louis Blues, a late hit to Robert Thomas warranted a 2 game preseason ban

-In the final preseason game that same year, Wilson boarded Sammy Blais and was banned the first 4 games of the regular season

-May 2nd in the 2nd round of the playoffs, Wilson had an illegal check to the head to Zach Aston-Reese, which caused Reese to be concussed and broke his jaw

The suspension comes just hours before the Capitals raiser the banner for their 2017-2018 Stanley Cup Championship.
